About A Wish

This is installment number four in my Brothers Grimm series, and is of course an illustration of the story of Cinderella, who here we see modeled after =FantasyStock. I've been trying to stay as far away from the idealized Disney versions of these as possible, but I did decide I would like to include the mice here in this piece. They add something, in my opinion, and it isn't completely out of the question to me that the stepmother's house may have indeed had mice, like many houses did in those days. Also, I can imagine Cinderella would have been quite lonely, and perhaps may have fed a few and adopted them as pets, so the mice stay. I did, however, choose to stay away from the idea of the fairy godmother, which you really don't see in most of the original tellings of this tale. I chose instead to represent Cinderella's approaching salvation with a rather magical-looking ray of light coming through the window and lighting the room, and also by directing Cinderella's focus not toward the dank and musty room around her, but on the beautiful view before her eyes instead.
