Geo-Caching

Anyone caught reposting, altering, or using my work for any reason without my permission will be reported to the proper authorities for copyright violation.

Seth sent me this link earlier in the day, and it occurred to me that some of you might be able to really appreciate it as well. Maybe you've already heard of this, but it's certainly news to me. It's a bit like a treasure hunt of sorts. You type in your zip code, run a search, and the site spits out information on the geo-caches that are hidden closest to where you live. The idea is to find a cache, open it, choose one of the items hidden inside, replace what you took with something of your own, and put the cache back where you found it so that others can find it, too.

We would really love to try this some afternoon, especially since this town is severely lacking in fun and magical things to do. Maybe it isn't what most people would have in mind, but I'd love to leave something personal behind in the caches if I found any.... some poetry or maybe one or two small prints of my artwork. Very zen. Very magical. I do like this idea. Definitely go to the site and check it out. Let me know if you decide to go hunting for any caches yourself, too!

Sounds like a funny game! Unfortunately it looks a bit complicated getting started in Sweden. A lot of blogging going on and rather hard to find out how to join. But perhaps with some patience (which I don't have :D) it might be a great thing.

A while back I remember there was something similar with book exchanges, you had yellow rubber bands you tied up books you was done with and then someone else could pich up that book and tie up one of their own instead. But I think that had to stop because of authors right. I tried it once, left a booring romantica and got an even more boring crime novella in return :lmao:

The book thing sounds awesome actually! Too bad you can't do it anymore.

No, but it was fun as long as it lasted, although I only tried twice. Got one lousy book and one OK in return. But these cool things were something that went on in the dawn of the internet era, when the "information wants to be free" principle still more or less ruled and people were more insterested in helping out and less greedy.

I can still see it now and then but it seems like it's more and more about google aids and spamming. For instance one of my fave music forums recently closed down because the moderator/runner/owner got sick of all the troll posts and porn spams and lost the stamina to go in there cleaning up like 4 times a day. Very sad, I used to spend a lot of time there and made some good friends I even met and had fun with IRL, went to conserts with for instance, and I soooooooo miss the place. But what is there to do! There's always gonna be assholes destroying the fun for other people.
